PASCO – One of just four boys to finish under the 17-minute mark at last Saturday’s Pasco Big Cross Invite, Grandview junior Samuel Cuevas turned in the fourth fastest time on the day.
Cuevas toured the 5,000-meter track in a time of 16:59.9.
The only runners to best Cuevas were Hanford’s Seth Cook (16:37.3), and Northwest Christian’s Alex Wallat (16:48.9) and Jack Ammon (16:53.6).
The boys varsity race drew a field of 71 harriers.
Cuevas led the GHS Greyhound boys squad to an eighth-place finish in the team scoring. The ‘Hounds tallied 215 points at the 10-school meet. Tri-Cities Prep won top honors with an invite-low 54 points.
Second to cross the finish line for Grandview’s boys was junior Sabastian Raucamp. He posted the 48th fastest time (19:27.3).
The Greyhounds were also represented by Jose Cisneros-Valdez, 50th place in 19:28.9; Joesiah Saunders, 65th place in 21:03.5; Jose Castaneda, 68th place in 21:26.3; and Ricky Avelos, 69th place in 22:53.1.
Grandview Coach Jim Pillers elected to enter the three girls he had available for Saturday’s meet in the 2-mile junior varsity race. From a total of 14 girls who competed, GHS sophomore Cynthia DeRobles put up the third fastest time, a clocking of 15:32.7. Grandview also got 8th and 10th-place finishes from Marie Olson (16:21.6) and Keanna Maki (17:38.1). The winning time of 14:51.8 was set by Richland freshman Marisa Turner.
