BICKLETON – The 1B Lady Pirates varsity snapped a two-match losing streak by defeating the visiting 1A Mabton JV squad in four sets last night, 25-14, 25-10, 13-25, 25-23.

“The girls played smart and in control,” said Bickleton Coach Katie Leuthauser. “Daniela (Smith) and Shaylee (Tharp) did a great job setting us up for some big hits.”

Smith was 9-for-9 servings with an ace and also tallied four kills and five assists for Bickleton Monday night. Tharp went 24-for-27 from the service line with six aces. Tharp also had four kills and six assists.

“Towards the second game the hitters were less conservative and really went after the ball,” said Leuthauser. “We got too lax the third game, but then picked it back up.”

Two Lady Pirates gave 16-for-16 performances from the service line: Sydnie Obanion and Lindsay Brown. Obanion had four aces and three kills. Brown tallied three aces and eight kills.

Bickleton (2-2, 3-2) will play another home match tonight, Oct. 8, against Yakima Tribal.
