Lady Pirates ruffle the feathers of Eagles

BICKLETON – The Lady Pirates defeated the Yakama Tribal Eagles in three sets last night, 25-12, 25-19, 25-15.

Tuesday’s victory boosted Bickleton back above the .500 mark in 1B league play, at 3-2.

“We did pretty well,” said Bickleton Coach Katie Leuthauser. “Everybody was able to get out on the court and play in the match.”

Standouts for Bickleton were Sydnie Obanion, who was 22-for-22 from the service line with five aces, and Shaylee Tharp, who contributed a 20-for-20 performance serving with eight aces. Tharp also blasted three kills.

Lady Pirate Daniela Smith only went 4-for-6 from the service line, but three of those serves proved unreturnable.

Younger Bickleton players Katrina Cardenas and Lacy Cannon each tallied a kill in the match.

“It was nice to see the effort from the younger girls,” said Leuthauser.

The Lady Pirates (3-2, 4-2) will be visiting Kahlotus this Saturday, Oct. 12.
