Port approves alfalfa sales

In action taken this past Monday, Port of Sunnyside commissioners approved renewing a five-year contract with Jim’s Hay to harvest the port’s alfalfa fields.

The fields, totalling about 500 acres between Midvale Road and the Sunnyside-Mabton Highway, grow alfalafa as part of the port’s industrial wastewater treatment process.

The contract approved last night calls for Jim Cuddy to purchase the alfalfa for $50 per ton, up from $40 in the previous five-year contract.
