Hubert “Bill” Austin Bailey, 78, of Yakima and a former Sunnyside/Grandview resident passed away on Monday, Oct. 7, 2013 in Yakima.
He was born Jan. 18, 1935 in Sunnyside to Hezzie (Pete) and Anna (Richert) Bailey. He lived and grew up on the family farm in Sunnyside. Soon after he finished school he joined the National Guard.
In 1959 he married Kathleen Powell. They had three children, Julie, Jann and Jill Bailey.
Dad drove a milk tanker for several years while operating the family Concord grape farm in Grandview.
In his retirement years, he sold the farm and moved to the Nile Valley area and then to Yakima.
He spent many enjoyable hours farming, refurbishing old cars and was an avid antique collector. He also enjoyed his pinochle club friends.
He is survived by three children, Julie (Doug) LaPierre, Jann (Connie) Bailey and Jill (Michael) Gray; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Kathleen (Ron) Stewart, Barbara (Wayne) Horton and Clarissa Murray; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Bill Bailey will be held Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Valley Hills Funeral Home in Sunnyside.
