Pacific Power connects irrigators with hotline

Most Pacific Power customers have one electric meter, which are pretty easy to keep track of. Irrigators in the Yakima Valley area face unique challenges when in need of service or when questions about the electricity powering their pumps arise.

Even a small operation may have two or three remote meters attached to pumps scattered across its fields. If an issue arises, determining which meter is involved can slow getting the service needed quickly.

To help, Pacific Power has taken extra steps that will ensure that irrigators quickly get service for special circumstances. These steps include a dedicated hotline resource, and pump-and-meter-specific identifiers to put customer service agents and irrigators on the same page.

Approximately 3,000 irrigation customers have received individual stickers for each of their electric meters. The packet includes a list of the meters Pacific Power has on file for each customer, as well as a reminder about how easy the hotline is to use.

“This is about recognizing unique issues our customers, in this case our irrigation customers, face when dealing with multiple meters that are often in remote locations,” said Bill Clemens, Pacific Power’s regional community manager.

This enhanced service simplifies and speeds up any service requests or questions irrigators may have from the field since the meter number will be available for reference. Clemens added, “It’s like the coach having a line-up sheet.”

Established in 1997, the toll-free hotline is staffed by 45 Pacific Power experts who know how to take care of irrigators’ unique power issues. The specially trained agents field about 550 calls each month from Washington irrigators.

Said Clemens, “Our irrigation customers are encouraged to call us to energize or de-energize pumps, or just for billing questions. They also can find out about the latest wattsmart incentives on equipment upgrades that will help them save money and operate more efficiently. This hotline is just for them.”

The Pacific Power irrigator hotline toll-free 1-800-715-9238 number is in operation from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Other customers can always call Pacific Power toll-free at 1-888-221-7070, 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
