KLICKITAT – The Sunnyside Christian Lady Knights defeated the Vandals in three sets, 25-18, 25-19, 25-19, to take the top spot in the Greater Columbia Gorge 1B league.

The win was not guaranteed as the Lady Knights fell behind in all three sets before rallying to win.

“We started out slow but stayed together as a team and stayed aggressive at the net,” said Lady Knights Coach Stephanie Dalrymple. “Kate Newhouse, McKenzie Benjert and Katelyn Banks helped us push a lot of points from the service line.”

Newhouse was 15-for-15 serving and also racked up five perfect passes and nine digs.

Benjert went 11-for-13 from the service line for Sunnyside Christian with eight assists in the match. Banks gave her team a 14-for-14 serving performance.

Lady Knight Annie Brower also did well at the service line with a 9-for-11 performance. Brouwer was all over the court, tallying four kills, seven perfect passes and eight digs, as well.

Sunnyside Christian’s Stormee VanBelle had nine kills and nine perfect passes. Teammate Aydan Harrington had eight assists and Brittany Broersma dug up the ball six times and spiked it four times.

Sunnyside Christian (5-0, 9-0) will be playing its last home match of the regular season tomorrow, Oct. 17, against Bickleton.
