Bickleton runners pick up race experience at Zillah meet

ZILLAH – The class 1B Bickleton Pirates tested their skills against four 1A teams yesterday at a SCAC cross-country meet hosted by the Zillah Leopards.

Although Bickleton’s boys brought up the rear in the team scoring, the Pirates finished just one point behind Connell. Team scoring showed Royal topping the field with a meet-low 31 points, followed by Zillah with 47, Wahluke with 75 and Connell with 109.

The boys race winner on Zillah’s 5,000-meter course proved to be Royal High School senior Marcos Quiroz. He covered the terrain in 16:32.9.

Wahluke senior Ramon Bravo was a distant second with a clocking of 16:54.9.

Bickleton had six runners in the boys race. The Pirates’ top finisher was sophomore Troy Roberts. He placed 12th from the 66-runner field with a clocking of 17:39.3.

Sophomore Andrew Gan-non notched a 17th-place finish for the Pirates. He set a time of 18:20.9. Rounding out the team scoring for Bickleton were junior Joey Cardenas, 25th place in 19:03.6; freshman Joseph Cummings, 42nd place in 20:53.2; and freshman Kenny Allenton, 54th place in 22:23.7.

Bickleton had no entries for the girls race. The first and second-place finishers were Alexis Redfield of the Leopards (20:41.5) and Royal’s Meghan Mianecki (21:27.4).
