Trunk or treat help sought in Sunnyside

The Sunnyside Chamber of Commerce is seeking volunteers and businesses to participate in the fourth annual trunk or treat event.

Scheduled to be held in Central Park from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, the trunk or treat is expected to attract about 3,000 participants.

Trunk or treaters will spend the evening going from trunk to trunk, collecting candy from volunteers who have decorated their vehicles to serve as a backdrop for the event.

Those attending the trunk or treat are asked to bring a canned food donation as the children enter the event area.

Children will be voting for their favorite decorated vehicle. The top decorated vehicle will receive a prize.

Due to the popularity of this event, the chamber says the admission line will be cut off prior to the end of the event in order to adhere to the 8 p.m. closing time.

Volunteers will be asked to decorate their trunk or tailgates and provide them as stopping points for candy distribution at the event.

All interested volunteers are asked to call 837-5939. The chamber has trunk or treat applications that volunteers and businesses must fill out and return to the chamber office no later than 4 p.m. tomorrow, Friday.

Volunteers and businesses participating in next Wednesday’s event are asked to arrive with their vehicle at Central Park between 3 and 4 p.m. and they will be assigned a parking spot where they can set up their trunk. They are also asked to bring plenty of candy for the trunk-or-treaters.

The chamber is also asking that all participating vehicles and volunteers be in place and decorated with age appropriate costumes no later than 4:30 p.m. next Wednesday. It also notes that no vehicles will be allowed in or out of the Central Park event area during the trunk or treat.
