Our community needs Hancock

I have lived in Sunnyside my entire life and have known Theresa Hancock for most of hers. Theresa is a very kind and honest person, and always professional.

Theresa has owned and operated a successful business in Sunnyside for at least 30 years. During that time she has served on many local and state level boards, committees and community organizations. She is always there to volunteer her time when and where as needed.

For more than eight years she has served on the Sunnyside City Council. During her first year the council inherited huge budget deficits, large general fund debt and little to no reserves from the outgoing council. Theresa and her fellow council members (Carol Stone, Bruce Epps, Paul Garcia and Jim Restucci to name a few) worked hard to balance the budget.

Theresa attended many different classes on municipal rules and operations, and budgeting, so that she could better serve in her capacity as council person.

The council had to make some tough choices in 2006-09, but based on solid research and input from the city staff, Theresa and council made those choices, balanced the budget and built up some reserves.

In 2010 new council members arrived. The reserves and the budget again took a tailspin. By 2012 when two additional new council members came on board, the reserves were gone and the council was spending more than it had coming into the general fund; and, so it has continued.

I would urge you to vote for Theresa Hancock for city council. She is an honest person that listens to the community at-large, and makes decisions based on solid research. She believes in transparency in government and open debate..

She has a very strong commitment to our community. Over the years she has proven her leadership capabilities.

Our community needs Theresa. She is ethical and has a good business sense. She will help our community grow and prosper.

Please join me in voting for Theresa Hancock this November. She will serve us well in the future as she has in the past eight years.
