BICKLETON – The Lady Pirates’ home opener was everything they could hope for as the team came away with a three-set win against Trout Lake, 25-16, 25-18, 25-12.
“The girls played well from the start,” said Bickleton Coach Katie Leuthauser. “They worked together and the atmosphere in our home gym was fantastic.”
Shaylee Tharp led the Lady Pirates with a 28-for-29 effort from the service line, including 10 aces. Tharp also racked up five assists and three kills in the game.
Bickleton’s Sydnie Obanion was a perfect 17-for-17 serving with seven aces. She also slammed home a kill for her team.
Lady Pirate Lindsay Brown spiked the ball for five kills and blocked Trout Lake three times at the net. Daniela Smith had three assists and three kills for Bickleton.
“The girls stayed upbeat and positive, which I think was key in this win,” said Leuthauser. “They brushed off their mistakes and played good, smart volleyball. Not to say we didn’t have our mistakes, but they did well recovering from most of them.”
The win gives Bickleton a 2-0 league record to start the season. The Lady Pirates will be traveling to the Tri-Cities Prep Invite tomorrow, Sept. 21. Bickleton will host the Mabton JV team next Monday, Sept. 23.
