YAKIMA – The Sunnyside Christian Lady Knights prevailed against the Riverside Christian Crusaders last night (Tuesday) in four sets, 25-16, 24-26, 25-10, 25-22.
“We struggled keeping the momentum in sets two and four,” said Sunnyside Christian Coach Stephanie Dalrymple. “I was happy the girls were able to fight for the win in set four and stop the match from going five sets.”
The Lady Knights, undefeated in regulation-length matches so far this year, received a wake-up call with the very close loss in the second set.
“We played very aggressive during sets one and three,” said Dalrymple. “It was like we got too comfortable during the other two.”
Lady Knight Stormee Van Belle led the team in serving, going 19-for-21 on the night with seven kills and 10 perfect passes.
McKenzie Benjert gave Sunnyside Christian an 18-for-19 performance from the service line with 11 assists.
Annie Brouwer also had a good night from the service line, going 18-for-20 for the Lady Knights. She also slammed home six kills and made nine perfect passes.
Lady Knight Brittany Broersma was 11-for-13 serving. Broersma spiked the ball for six kills and made five blocks at the net.
Katelyn Banks put in a 15-for-17 serving performance for Sunnyside Christian. Teammate Aydan Harrington had 13 assists and Kate Newhouse dug up the ball eight times and pounded home six kills on the night.
The Lady Knights (3-0) are hosting the Klickitat Vandals tomorrow night, Sept. 26.
