Grandview man avoids injuries in accident

BENTON CITY – The man behind the wheel of a 1995 International tractor-trailer semi truck, 54-year-old Victor Flores of Grandview, escaped unharmed last night when his rig was hit from behind.

Flores was westbound on I-82 at about 8:45 p.m. last night (Wednesday), approximately 11 miles east of Benton City. Washington State Patrol troopers say Flores’ semi was hit by a 2007 Nissan Quest van that was trailing behind the truck in the right-hand lane.

Inattention on the part of the driver in the van caused the accident, say WSP troopers. The driver of the van was Chrissy S. Reed, 28, of West Richland.

Both Reed and a passenger in the van, 6-year-old Timothy Reed, suffered injuries in the collision. Both were transported to Richland’s Kadlec Medical Center.

The van was totaled. Flores was able to drive his semi-truck from the scene of the accident.

The WSP said Reed faces a charge of negligent driving.
