Michael Gordon Stearns

OBITUARY

Michael Gordon Stearns, 64, of Sunnyside passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014, at his home.

Michael was born Oct. 10, 1949 in Sunnyside to Kenneth J. and Arlene (Thinkstad) Stearns.

Michael earned his diploma at Sunnyside High School and went on to earn his BA at Yakima Valley Community College.

Michael served our country in the U.S. Navy, as a cook during the Vietnam War.

When Michael was a young man, he enjoyed fishing, playing Bingo, dancing and solving word puzzles. Later in life he also enjoyed listening to music, watching movies and gardening.

Michael was a member of the VFW and Eagle’s Club.

Michael was survived by brothers, Pete (Hazel) Stearns, Ken (Sally) Stearns, William (Jean) Stearns and Joe (Sandy) Stearns; sisters, Anna (Bob) Garman, Gloria (Jim) Wallace and Hattie Jo (Stearns) Chancellor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth J. and Arlene Stearns; one brother, Gay Stearns; and three sisters, Ramona, Bunny and Peggy.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, April 5, 2014, at 11 a.m. at Grandview Church of God on the Old Yakima Valley Highway in Grandview, with military honors. A potluck reception will follow after the service.
