In a rare split vote, Port of Sunnyside commissioners last night, Monday, agreed 2-to-1 to amend a lease with S&P Cabinets.
The move gives the tenant 15 months to make up for upaid back rent while also waiving $2,244 in penalties.
Commissioner Jeff Matson voted no on the move, stating that in his opinion if S&P is late with one payment then the penalties should not be waived.
Commissioner Arnold Martin felt the port was fortunate to have a tenant for the property and was hesitant to add back the penalties.
Martin and Chair Jim Grubenhoff both voted in favor of the move, though they asked port staff to look at removing the tenant if lease payments are late again.
