GRANDVIEW – The Grandview City Council Tuesday authorized the mayor to sell surplus dirt that has been stockpiled as the result of its Bonnieview Road improvement project.
The city has 4,000-cubic yards of soil on hand.
City Administrator Cus Arteaga said a contractor working on a project in Sunnyside was interested in purchasing the soil, but the public works department did not have authorization to sell it at the time.
That, he said, prompted the request to surplus the dirt.
Arteaga said he would like to sell the dirt at the cost of $7 per cubic yard. “It’s a creative way to generate revenue.”
The council authorized the sale of surplus soil by a 5-0 vote.
