SHS suffers 11-0 loss to Chiefs

Although the Lady Grizzly fastpitch softball team suffered an 11-0 loss to Moses Lake last night, Sunnyside Coach Ralph Mendoza is proud of pitcher Amber Cornwell for holding the Chiefs to just eight hits.

He said there were only four Moses Lake batters who were allowed to take a base on gimmees.

“The defense is where the Lady Grizzlies struggled,” said Mendoza, noting Sunnyside committed eight errors.

The Chiefs scored eight runs in the opening inning of last night’s game. Another two runners made it to home plate in the second inning and the final run was scored in the third inning.

Cornwell and teammate Monique Gill were the only two Sunnyside batters to connect with the ball.

“We were unable to capitalize on the hits…we were unable to string together hits,” said Mendoza, stating one hit was in the first inning and the other in the fifth.

Sunnyside (1-8) will compete against the Chiefs again this coming Friday in a twin bill at Moses Lake’s Larson Field.
