Jacobo garners GHS’s lone win

GRANDVIEW – Had it not been for Esmeralda Jacobo, the Grandview High School boys’ and girls’ tennis squads would have got swept aside by the perennially tough Ellensburg Bulldogs yesterday afternoon.

As it turned out, Jacobo picked up Grandview’s lone win on Thursday. Playing in the No. 2 singles spot on the girls’ tennis courts, Jacobo got the better of Rachele Barker. The Lady Greyhound prevailed by scores of 6-3, 6-2.

With the visiting Bulldogs winning the nine other contested matches, Ellensburg notched 4-1 victories in both boys and girls play.

“Ellensburg is one of those teams that has players who play year round,” said Grandview Coach Ronda Penwell. “They also have many returning players, making it pretty tough to compete for us.”

Yesterday’s losses on the Grandview courts lowered both the GHS boys’ and girls’ tennis squads’ records to 1-3 in CWAC play.

The ‘Hounds are scheduled to play another league match tomorrow (Saturday) at Toppenish.
