Sunnyside Christian earns twin bill split at Klickitat

KLICKITAT – Playing a Klickitat team also comprised of players from Wishram, Glenwood and Lyle, the Sunnyside Christian fastpitch team came away with a doubleheader split yesterday.

The Lady Knights earned a 9-1 victory in game one at Klickitat on Tuesday, as Sunnyside Christian pitcher Aydan Harrington struck out 10 Vandal batters.

Harrington also was clutch at the plate with a 4-for-5 performance and three RBI in game one. Teammate McKenzie Benjert was also 4-for-5 and knocked in two runs.

Sunnyside Christian had a tougher time of it in the nightcap, falling short by a score of 10-8. The Lady Knights trailed 10-3 heading into the top of the seventh and final inning. In the final frame, Annelise DenHoed smacked a bases-loaded triple and teammate Marylou Filicetti delivered a two-run single to draw Sunnyside Christian close.

Sunnyside Christian (6-10) was originally scheduled to host Kittitas next Tuesday but that doubleheader will be rescheduled for another date, said Coach Kelly Harrington. She notes the Lady Knights’ next confirmed game will be Tuesday, May 13, at DeSales.
