MABTON – A budget meeting scheduled last December for the Mabton City Council led to a change in city law adopted this past Tuesday evening.
The meeting last December was called, but then cancelled due to lack of a quorum. Councilman Mark Gourneau was one of those in attendance at that meeting and felt he should have been paid the $40 per meeting pay council members receive.
Tuesday night, council approved a resolution that in the future will pay council members for meetings they attend, even if the meeting is canceled due to lack of quorum. In addition, council members will not receive the $40-per-meeting stipend for meetings they miss.
