Weather delays arrival of walls at plaza for vets

The granite walls due to be installed at Jerry Taylor Veterans Memorial Plaza on South Ninth Street in Sunnyside has been delayed by cold weather conditions.

According to Sunnyside American Legion Post member Greg Schlieve, the granite company in Seattle has not been able to deliver the slabs.

He said a tentative date of Thursday, Dec. 11, has been set for the arrival of the walls.

“That means we will not have a Pearl Harbor Day program,” said Schlieve, who said the Legion had planned to commemorate the historical event this coming Sunday, Dec. 7.
