Grandview lands on list of safest cities

SafeWise, a security organization, has released its list of the 50 safest cities in Washington state, and Grandview is No. 31 on the list.

SafeWise used the most recent FBI crime data from 2012, population, and other ranking factors, like unique safety initiatives and security programs implemented within the past few years to rank cities in Washington that have 5,000 or more residents.

According to the report, Grandview has a goal of ensuring the community is a great place to live.

“Thanks to community-based initiatives like Block Watch, the crime rate in Grandview was 64 percent less than the U.S. average in 2011,” said Rebecca Edwards, SafeWise security analyst.

Coming in at No. 33 on the report is Prosser, which is described as “vibrant and welcoming.”

Other area cities made the list as well. West Richland came in at No. 6, in part because of a 92 percent clearance rate on all violent crimes in 2012. Richland was No. 29 on the list and Pasco ranked at No. 37. Just squeaking onto the list was Kennewick at No. 48.

The safest city according to the list is Connell, which reported only six violent crimes in 2012. The full list is available at
