MABTON – The Mabton girls basketball team only had the opportunity to play one of its weekend games as Saturday’s game against Goldendale was canceled and will not be made up.
On Friday, the Lady Vikes hosted Cle Elum, defeating the Warriors 60-44.
“We started strong, then went into coast mode,” said Mabton Coach Chris McCallum.
Mabton opened the game on a 13-4 run and tallied another 27 points in the second quarter. Cle Elum was only allowed 12 points in the second stanza to end the half with a 24-point deficit (40-16).
The Lady Vikings rotated its bench players and scored just six points in the third quarter. The Warriors scored eight.
In the final quarter, Cle Elum outscored Mabton 20-14, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the deficit from the opening half.
The win ends the regular season for the Lady Vikes, who are No. 3 in the SCAC standings.
Leading the Lady Vikes against Cle Elum was Alyssa Nash with a game-high 19 points. Teammate Soila Zaragoza got a double-double with 18 points and 12 boards.
Also scoring in double digits was Mabton’s Adriana Zaragoza.
For the Warriors, Sara Ferguson scored 15 points and Paris Sanders added 10 points to the final score.
Mabton (15-4) will this coming Thursday open District play at Burbank.
