Just after New Year’s, I attended a retirement party for Dr. Steven Elerding, MD. I worked with Dr. Elerding for more than 30 years of his practice in Sunnyside and Prosser. I have looked for an article about Dr. Elerding’s retirement in the paper but have not seen one.
I would like to take a minute and publicly thank Dr. Elerding for his service and dedication to our community for the more than 33 years he practiced in Sunnyside. Dr. Elerding is very well trained, having attended medical school at the University of California, Irvine. He did his surgical residency at the University of Colorado, followed by a Cancer Fellowship at MD Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas.
Ask any hospital recruiter what would be the chances of attracting a general surgeon with Dr. Elerding’s training to a rural community like ours today and they would tell you that the chances are small.
I feel that Dr. Elerding was a major force in helping the Sunnyside medical community stay on the cutting edge of medicine. Examples include the introduction of endoscopy and laparoscopic procedures, such as laparoscopic gall bladder removal and appendectomy.
The best complement a medical professional can give to another medical professional is to be his or her patient. My family members and I have trusted Dr. Elerding with our medical care over his years of practice.
Thank you, Steve, for your dedicated medical service!
