Lady Knights make short work of Huskies

MORO, ORE. – The Sunnyside Christian Lady Knights traveled south to Oregon to take on the Sherman County Huskies and came away with a resounding 69-19 victory last Saturday.

“It’s nice wheat country,” said Sunnyside Christian Coach Al Smeenk. “But they weren’t really that competitive.”

Sunnyside Christian took eight girls to the game. All of them scored and most of them played every quarter, according to Smeenk.

Topping the scoring for the Lady Knights was Katelyn Banks with 15 points. Stormee Van Belle and Annie Brouwer each added 11 to the score and Kristen Broersma dropped in another 10 points.

“We took a week off for vacation, then had only two days of practice,” said Smeenk. “But we went down there and generally played fairly well.”

The undefeated Sunnyside Christian squad will host DeSales tomorrow night (Tuesday).

“DeSales is always competitive,” said Smeenk. “It should be a good ball game.”
