Local motorists warned to drive according to conditions

Tuesday night’s burst of icy winter weather has local police officers reminding motorists to slow down and drive for the nasty conditions.

“Fortunately, we didn’t have any accidents in Sunnyside last night due to the weather,” said Sunnyside Police Officer Jim Ortiz.

“I think the white stuff caused the drivers to slow down,” he said.

Ortiz also reminded motorists that leaving their vehicles unattended while warming up their cars on these frigid winter mornings may lead to a citation, “...especially if motorists’ cars are parked on the city streets.”

In other activity Sunnyside officers made six traffic stops, handled two parking complaints and investigated six suspicious circumstances during the past 24 hours.

Sunnyside police also handled a report of lost property, a trespassing report, a residential alarm, an animal complaint, a disorderly conduct report, a report of malicious mischief, a civil matter and a noise complaint.
