Wenatchee swimmers dunk SHS boys, 144-27

YAKIMA – Unable to garner a win in any of the 12 events staged yesterday at Yakima’s Lions Pool, the Sunnyside High School boys swim team fell by a 144-27 score to the Wenatchee Panthers.

The Grizzlies are now 0-5 in dual meet competitions this season.

The best Sunnyside could muster against the Panthers were three runner-up performances.

The first came in the 200-yard medley relay. The SHS foursome of Mathew Marquez, Fox Rodriguez, Ricardo Perez and Adrian Moreno finished the race in 1:57.78. The Wenatchee quartet of Vargas, Boese, Pringle and Higley clipped the Grizzlies for top honors with a clocking of 1:56.64. Another Wenatchee squad earned third-place honors in the event, nipping on Sunnyside’s heels by clocking a time of 1:57.91.

Sunnyside got its second runner-up finish on the day in the 100-yard butterfly. Perez clocked a time of 1:03.54. The only swimmer to best him in the race was Wenatchee’s Kaleb Pringle (1:00.51). Pringle’s teammate, Garrett Christenson, was third with a time of 1:04.82.

Rodriguez earned the Grizzlies their third second-place finish on Tuesday, competing in the 100-yard breaststroke. He recorded a time of 1:09.48, four and a half seconds quicker than his teammate Perez, who placed third. The winner, Wenatchee’s Austin Boese, clocked a time of 1:05.96.

The SHS swim team is next scheduled to compete on Tuesday, Jan. 14, in Eastmont’s home pool.
