Joyce Marie Carrell, 89, of Grandview went to be in the arms of her Savior on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2014.
Joyce was born Aug. 27, 1924 in Yakima, the daughter of Joy Tenant and Gladys Pearl (Winn) Carrell. She received her education in Grandview and graduated from Grandview High School with the class of 1942. She later attended Washington State University, where she received a Bachelor’s degree and graduated with high honors. Joyce taught at Prairie Bible Institute High School for 20 years. She returned to Grandview and finished her career at Grandview High School retiring in 1989.
Joyce was an active member of Grandview Grace Brethren Church that is now known as the Household of Faith, where she taught women’s Bible studies and was the Vacation Bible School director for many years.
She enjoyed playing the piano and organ. She was the organist for the Grace Brethren Church for more than 20 years. She also loved singing in the church choir for several years.
Joyce loved and cherished time spent with her three generation of nieces and nephews.
She is survived by two sisters, Doris (Hubert) Chrestenson of Forest Grove, Ore. and Ruth Carrell of Grandview; one brother, James T. Carrell of Livermore, Calif.; three generations of nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Joyce was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Mary Larche.
Viewing and visitation will be held Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, from 1 to 5 p.m. at Smith Funeral Home in Grandview. Graveside service will be held Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2014, at 1 p.m. at Grandview Cemetery, with funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. at Iglesia Vida Nueva (Household of Faith), 1111th W. Third St., Grandview.
