GIRLS PREP BOWLING
YAKIMA – Sunnyside rang up some of its best numbers of the season yesterday, but the effort went for naught as the West Valley High School girls bowling team prevailed by a 4-0 score in tightly contested games.
It’s the second time this season the Rams have swept Sunnyside (3-7).
West Valley had three girls who rolled 300-plus two-game series, including Summer Himrod. She opened with a 175, adding a 195 for a match-best 370 series. The Rams also got games of 159-157 from Blaire Crutchley and 152-159 from Amanda Selberg.
Sunnyside’s top bowler Thursday afternoon at Yakima’s Nob Hill Lanes was senior Brianna Esqueda. She tossed a 195 in the opener, closing with a 145 for a team-high 340 series.
The Rams won the opening game by a 56-pin margin, 786-730. West Valley forged a 2-0 lead in the match by taking game two, 759-711.
West Valley completed the sweep with a pair of 148-132 and 134-123 Baker game victories.
Esqueda’s two-game series of 340 was tops for Sunnyside. The Lady Grizzlies also got efforts of 125-173 from Johanna Chumley, 132-142 from Thalia Borja, 132-133 from Megan Kinney and 146-114 from Carla Rodriguez.
The SHS bowlers are scheduled to host the Selah Vikings at Sunnyside’s Valley Lanes next Thursday, Jan. 16. In two previous meetings with Selah this season, the Lady Grizzlies won the first match but were swept by the Vikings in the second go-round.
