Three injured in separate crashes

A Saturday morning mishap on I-82 and a two-vehicle crash Sunday evening left three Lower Yakima Valley residents injured this past weekend.

Saturday at about 10 a.m., Washington State Patrol troopers report Daisy Martinez, 22, of Grandview was westbound on I-82 approximately a mile east of Benton City. The WSP said Martinez lost control of her 2005 Mitsubishi Lancer.

Martinez’s vehicle careened into the median and rolled, coming to rest on its wheels. Her Mitsubishi was totaled.

The Grandview woman was transported to Kadlec Medical Center in the Tri-Cities. State patrol troopers report Martinez was wearing a safety restraint.

Sunday evening just before 7:30 p.m., WSP officials say Ignacio B. Alamazan, 26, of Mabton ran a stop sign on Miller Road, about two miles east of Mabton. The car he was driving, a 1995 Ford Contour, collided with a 2000 Ford F-250 pick-up truck that was eastbound on Stettner Road.

The driver of the truck, 20-year-old Geovanny Vargas of Mabton, escaped serious injury.

Alamazan and a passenger in his Ford Contour, 27-year-old Ma R. DeLaOmata of Mabton, both required hospitalization. A second passenger, a 2-year-old girl, avoided injuries.

WSP officials indicated that alcohol may have been a factor in Alamazan failing to stop at the stop sign on Miller Road.
