In coordination with Women Empowered Career Day 2014, Sierra Vista Middle School in Sunnyside will be the site of a career day for eighth grade girls.
Lori Febus is a GEAR-UP assistant site coordinator, and she says the career day will run from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and feature workshops for eighth grade girls to provide insight in various career options.
She says volunteer presenters will provide information on careers ranging from lawyers to dentists to police officers.
In addition, the career day will offer workshops for parents on seeking financial aid for their children’s college education and getting them ready for college.
Following a networking lunch, the event will close with a “dress for success” fashion show. Febus says the idea is “…so they (students) can see how professionals dress for work.”
The event will be held in the Sierra Vista Middle School gym and classrooms, with directional signs pointing attendees to the various workshops and activities.
There is no charge to attend the event.
