A Festival of Speed

RACERS WARM up with a practice run Saturday afternoon, June 28, as racing gets underway at the Maryhill Festival of Speed on Maryhill Loop Road. Downhill skateboarders and street lugers challenged the 2.2-mile, 22-corner course throughout the four-day festival, with final races Sunday. Letter to the editor: About respect

To the editor: This letter is in response to Bill Davis’ letter in The Dalles Chronicle, June 24. He asks if Caucasians would be angry if the Washington D.C. football team changed its name to the the Pale Faces. He then mentions ‘’thin skinned’’ and political correctness. I’m not sure why he did not write Washington Redskins.

Foster mom recalls Oregon woman whose body was found in suitcase

ELKHORN, Wis. — An Oregon teenager identified Monday as one of two women whose bodies were found in suitcases in Wisconsin had a hard time after giving up her son to his father, but she was turning her life around and had won a college scholarship before she disappeared, her foster mother said.
