A three-car pile-up on SR-241, about two miles south of Sunnyside yesterday afternoon, left one elderly man with injuries.
Washington State Patrol troopers report 89-year-old Teodoro Lopez of Sunnyside sustained injuries in the collision. He was sent to Sunnyside Community Hospital for medical treatment.
Lopez, the only person who required medical care, was a passenger in a 1998 Honda Civic driven by Jorge Rivera, 26, of Sunnyside.
WSP troopers say Rivera failed to slow for two vehicles that were stopped ahead of him in the southbound lane. His Honda Civic crashed into a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier, which was stopped for a 2007 Ford Taurus. The impact of the collision caused the Cavalier to strike the Ford Taurus.
The driver of the Taurus, 57-year-old Lucina O. Gutierrez of Sunnyside, had come to a stop and was turning into a driveway.
The motorist behind the wheel of the 2000 Cavalier was David Mota Osorio, 29, of Grandview.
Washington State Patrol officials indicate a charge of speeding too fast for conditions is pending against Rivera.
