The Sunnyside Lions Club is currently sponsoring a “Donate to Detonate” raffle as part of its promotion for the club’s Independence Day celebration, to be held Friday, July 4, at Sunnyside High School’s Clem Senn Field.
The winner of the drawing, to be held on the Fourth, must be present to win and over 18, according to Barbara Bloomfield-Lange, the Independence Day chairperson.
She said the raffle tickets are being sold at the cost of $3 each or four for $10.
“The winner gets to start the fireworks display,” Lange said.
She said this year’s fireworks display will be produced by Wolverine West, LLC of Seattle with Milt Brown of Selah as head pyro technician.
“We are excited to present a really big show and hope the community will pile into the stadium to enjoy the program, and pre-fireworks games and entertainment, as well as the vendors who will be on site for the celebration,” Lange said.
The Lions Independence Day committee is also moving the annual parade later in the day to allow for more local participation, Lange said.
She said this year’s parade marshal will be World War II veteran Ralph Prescott of Sunnyside.
The parade will begin at 4 p.m. near the Sunnyside Law and Justice Center and conclude near the Clem Senn Field gate.
As in past in past years, groups wishing to be vendors at the event are encouraged to contact Lange or go online at www.dailysunnews.com to download vendor applications. Parade applications are also posted at the Daily Sun News website, she said.
Raffle tickets are available from all Sunnyside Lions Club members or by calling Lange at 1-509-366-1184 or Julia Hart at 840-9564.
