Chicken policy

MABTON – After a successful drive to get Mabton’s dogs licensed – with more than 100 signed up netting more than $5,000 in fees for the city – Mabton Police Chief Rick Gutierrez told the city council Tuesday night he was next going to focus on chickens kept in town illegally.

In response, council decided to review the ordinance banning chickens at its next meeting on Tuesday, June 24. Mayor Mario Martinez said with Sunnyside considering chickens it’s a good time for Mabton to review its policy.
