GOLDENDALE – Maryhill Museum of Art’s 2014 season will open on Saturday, March 15, with the special James Lee Hansen exhibit.
Hansen is one of the Northwest’s most renowned modernist sculptors.
The exhibition will be on view March 15 through July 27.
Hansen’s artwork incorporates abstract organic and geometric shapes that suggest figuration – animal heads, human bodies, wings, and leaves – and patinas ranging from mottled green and blue to gold, copper and brass – many evoking ancient bronze. Hansen draws inspiration from the artistic and mythological traditions of a variety of cultures - Native American, Greek and Asian, among others – to create these bold works.
