You can look in Webster’s to find the definition of versatile, or you can just look at the Lady Grizzly hoop roster, which has several girls who are multiple threats.

Among them is Natalia Bazan, a junior who is something of a Swiss army knife for the Lady Griz.

Some games she’s called on to be a defensive specialist, other times it’s to help run the Sunnyside offense.

“She’s truly a well-rounded player,” said Coach Rick Puente.

Last week, the Lady Grizzlies needed her shooting touch to help them gain the program’s first State trophy in nearly 25 years.

In two critical wins last Friday and Saturday that garnered Sunnyside a fourth-place trophy, Bazan averaged 17 points. She shot an eye-popping 70 percent clip from the field, connecting on 15-of-21 attempts in the two games.

In Saturday’s finale, the 5-6 junior added a team-high seven rebounds, two steals and even a blocked shot.

So how does Bazan prepare herself game-to-game knowing her role in each one could very well be different?

“I just play hard and try to provide what my team needs,” she smiled.
