$30,000 grant to aid Mabton water situation

MABTON – In action last night, Tuesday, the Mabton City Council authorized Mayor Mario Martinez to sign an agreement with the Washington State Department of Health for a $30,000 grant related to city water projects.

Under terms of the deal, the Department of Health will conduct a feasibility study to determine the best approach for reducing nitrates in drinking water and to ensure drinking water reliability.

In the summer of 2013, for example, one of the city’s wells failed, which led to water-use restrictions for Mabton residents.
