Car thief, and Jeep, ends up in canal

An attempt to steal a Jeep Wrangler Wednesday night landed both the jeep and the car thief in the canal near the 1500 block of South Fourth Street, according to a Sunnyside police report.

The jeep owner reported the vehicle missing at approximately 9 p.m. when co-workers alerted him to seeing a woman leaving the area in the Jeep. The vehicle was later removed from the canal. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

Officers also investigated several reports of thefts during the past 24 hours, including a report of missing power tools taken from a rental property in the 600 block of South Eighth Street.

Officers also investigated a report of missing computer towers from the 600 block of Scoon Road and a report of a stolen purse taken from the 600 block of East Edison Avenue.

In other activity, police investigated three animal complaints, one domestic violence report, three juvenile problems, three reports of trespassing and made one traffic stop.

Sunnyside Police Department officers also provided one agency assist, one citizen assist, made four welfare checks, fielded two informational calls and made seven public service contacts in the past 24 hours.
