A driver of one of two vehicles involved in a collision at North 16th Avenue and Yakima Valley Highway yesterday (Thursday) just before 6:30 p.m. was taken to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries after the mishap.
Sunnyside police say the vehicles involved in the accident blocked the roadway. Witnesses told police a pick-up ran a red light eastbound on Yakima Valley Highway. A passenger car heading northbound on North 16th Street struck the back of the truck.
The driver of the passenger car complained of minor injuries and was transported to the hospital.
About two hours later police were notified of a vehicle theft in the 2000 block of Yakima Valley Highway. A 1995 Acura Integra was stolen from the parking lot in front of Rite Aid.
The vehicle’s owner said he just purchased the vehicle from out of state. It has an Oregon license plate.
Sunnyside police notified other agencies in surrounding communities, but the vehicle had not been recovered as of this morning.
Just before 9 p.m. last night residents in the McLain Drive area called police, stating they heard what they believed were gunshots in the area. Several callers were disturbed by the sounds and the sight of what were described as flashes from the west. Officers investigated the source of the sounds and the flashing, finding there were animal/pest control efforts taking place.
