Senior citizen hospitalized after getting struck by car

A 77-year-old Sunnyside man required hospitalization last night as the result of being struck by a 2005 Acura four-door sedan.

Washington State Patrol troopers say Jose Ochoa, 77, was walking across Yakima Valley Highway at the Fourth Street intersection in Sunnyside Tuesday evening at about 8 p.m. when he got hit. Troopers say Ochoa, who was on foot headed north across the highway, did not yield the right-of-way to the eastbound Acura.

The driver of the vehicle was 25-year-old Maria G. Sanchez Santana of Grandview. WSP officials said she was not injured.

Her car sustained minor damage, but she was able to drive it from the scene of the accident.

Ochoa was transported to Sunnyside Community Hospital.
