Springtime fires keeping firemen busy

Sunnyside firemen responded to a report of a car fire in the 500 block of North Fourth Street in the early hours of Saturday morning. The car sustained an estimated $5,000 damage, according to the report. None of the nearby buildings were involved in the fire.

Since last Friday, Sunnyside firemen have also responded to two automatic alarms, one in the 1600 block of Washington Court and a second one in the 900 block of Saul Road. Additionally, firemen also provided a citizen assist in the 1200 block of Vine Avenue this past weekend.

Last Thursday, Sunnyside firemen provided extra manpower to Yakima County Fire District 5 fire crews helping extinguish a debris fire north of Sunnyside. The fire was reported near the intersection of Stout and Arrowsmith roads.

Firemen also responded to a report of a structure fire in the 500 block of Rouse Road, as well as to burn complaints in the 400 block of Woods Road and near the intersection of Fourth Street and Woods Road last Thursday. Both incidents are under investigation by the fire department.

In addition since last Thursday, firemen responded to 13 aid calls, provided seven transfers and conducted three facility transfers.
