A decision regarding action against a Sunnyside public works employee believed to have stolen more than $2,200 has not yet been finalized, according to City Manager Don Day.
Wednesday he told the Daily Sun News “The criminal investigation is ongoing…a pre-disciplinary hearing was held last week.”
However, the results of the hearing have not been forwarded to Day.
He said, “They may have decided to hold off on any final decision.”
Day said hearing examiners may be waiting to find out the results of the criminal investigation before taking action.
The investigation into the theft began as a result of a state audit prompted by the city earlier this year.
During the audit, it was discovered that more than $2,200 in questionable purchases had been made by a staff member in the public works department.
