TOPPENISH – A pair of Grandview High School seniors wowed the competition at a four-school CWAC girls’ track and field meet in Toppenish Thursday afternoon.
Kasi Prieto and Jamila Shafer came away with five victories between them.
Prieto shared one of her wins with her 4x200 relay squad members. She and Grandview’s Lizeth Valencia, Ayisha Guillen and Kaysie Kollmar made mincemeat of the field, winning the relay in a time of 1:51.13. The next closest finisher, a foursome from Ellensburg, was a distant second with a clocking of 1:55.38.
Prieto also earned a pair of victories in the 200 and 400-meter runs.
In the 200m, the GHS senior was never really pressed. Prieto clocked a time of 26.93 seconds. Toppenish freshman Cally Evans, the runner-up in the 32-girl field, was well back with a 27.84 clocking. Shaver managed a ‘Top 3’ placing for the Lady Greyhounds by recording a time of 28.35.
Prieto was even more dominant in the 400m race. She circled the Toppenish oval in 1:01.24. Ellensburg sophomore Maya Swan finished second in a time of 1:05.86.
Shafer came away with two victories for Grandview, as well, in the discus and javelin.
She got the platter to fly a distance of 105-2. The next best discus throw was 104 feet-even, accomplished by Toppenish senior Natalie Vargas.
Shafer’s winning javelin throw was 110-1. Ellensburg’s Madison Moffat was second (107-2).
Shafer rounded out her day with a 30-11 mark in the triple jump, bested only by Ellensburg’s Bridgette Wichterman (32-8).
Grandview’s girls also returned home with ‘Top 3’ finishes from the junior Kollmar in the pole vault and from sophomore Cynthia Robles in the 3200-meter run. Kollmar was second in the pole vault with a leap of 7-0. The winning vault was 8-3, set by Ellensburg’s Maggie Barker. Robles placed second in the 3200m with a clocking of 13:57. Emily Volkirch of Ellensburg was first (13:23).
