Sunnyside pitcher Amber Cornwell (at right) throws a strike at the beginning of game one this past Saturday against the Davis Pirates. In the third inning she was relieved by Monique Gill due to an injury. Cornwell, before leaving the game, also managed a base hit. She ended the regular season with a .343 batting average. Above, Gill connects with the ball to get on base. She was 1-for-3 in game one, helping the Lady Grizzlies secure a 14-4 victory over the Pirates. Sunnyside secured a 10-3 victory over Davis in the nightcap. Johanna Chumley and Meagan Casseday each hit a double to bring in two runners. Teammate Dalia Romo combined to go 4-for-6 in the two games, ending the regular season with a .444 batting average. Sunnyside (4-16) will play a Sub-Regional postseason playoff game at Southridge tonight (Monday).
