WALLA WALLA – Shakespeare Walla Walla and Northwest Public Television will present an exclusive preview screening of the first episode of season five of “Downton Abbey” on the big screen at Gesa Power House Theatre. The episode will be screened at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 4, a month before its U.S. broadcast.
The theater lobby opens at 6:30 p.m. to the general public, with complimentary refreshments provided by Northwest Public Television. Beer, wine and cocktails will be available for purchase.
“Downton Abbey” is a popular British period drama that began airing in the United Kingdom in the fall of 2010, and is re-broadcast in the United States on PBS. The series has received many accolades, including a Golden Globe Award for Best Miniseries or Television Film, a BAFTA award and a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Miniseries. The new season of “Downton Abbey” is set in 1924, as Britain’s first Labour government comes to power.
All guests at the Dec. 4 screening are invited to dress in Victorian or 1920’s apparel, or as their favorite Downton Abbey character.
A raffle benefiting Shakespeare Walla Walla includes a “Downton Abbey” gift basket and a VIP Gesa Power House Theatre ticket package for up to six people.
Free reserved seating tickets for the Dec. 4 event are available online or by calling the box office beginning Thursday, Nov. 26. Seating is limited.
