DUI suspect in custody for possessing stolen firearm

One of four DUI suspects was yesterday (Sunday) taken into custody after Sunnyside police found him in possession of a stolen firearm.

Officials say an officer conducted a traffic stop in the area of Cemetery Road and North Avenue yesterday, believing the driver of a vehicle was driving under the influence.

After making contact with the driver, officials say, he was taken into custody on suspicion of DUI. Further investigation led to the discovery of a firearm that was confirmed as stolen, say officials.

Sunnyside police have since last Friday also investigated two theft reports. A student at Harrison Middle School was contacted on suspicion of stealing money last Friday and a resident in the 500 block of Flower Street reported the theft of a cell phone that same day.

Officers have also since Friday handled a controlled substance problem, two domestic violence calls, two fights, two reports of fraudulent activity, two juvenile problems, 13 suspicious activity calls, a reported sex crime, 12 traffic stops and five traffic mishaps.

Police, too, provided seven agency assists and six citizen assists, and served two arrest warrants.
