Kamiakin High play opens on Friday, Nov. 14

KENNEWICK – Kamiakin High School’s BraveStage Production Company will present “The Witch of Blackbird Pond,” by Y. York and adapted from the novel by Elizabeth George Speare.

Directed by Chris Hamilton, the play opens Friday, Nov. 14, at 7 p.m., with additional performances on Saturday, Nov. 15, at 2 p.m., as well as Friday, Nov. 21, and Saturday, Nov. 22, at 7 p.m.

“The Witch of Blackbird Pond” deals with intolerance and misunderstanding in Puritan New England. Young Kit Tyler runs afoul of authorities and popular beliefs when she moves from Barbados to Massachusetts.

What seems to her to be innocent free expression, turns ugly when she befriends an older Quaker woman.

The script was originally commissioned and produced by the Seattle Children’s Theatre.

The BraveStage Production Company is known for its recent productions of Les Miserables, Up the Down Staircase and Macbeth.

Tickets for “The Witch of Blackbird Pond” will be available at the door at the cost of $8 for students and seniors, and $10 for adults.

Kamiakin High School is located at 600 N. Arthur St. in Kennewick.
