Pursuit last Friday ends in capture of burglary suspect

Police in Sunnyside last Friday morning, just before 11 a.m., assisted the Yakima County Sheriff’s Office after a reported burglary on Sunnyside-Mabton Highway.

Officers from Sunnyside were called to assist in the pursuit, which ended up on I-82. The suspects fled from the vehicle they were in after abandoning it near a dairy in the Outlook area.

Officers from multiple agencies, as well as a K-9 unit, eventually apprehended one suspect.

Sunnyside police have also since last Friday investigated five thefts, two of which involved shoplifters at Walmart. The others involved a resident in the 700 block of Woods Road reporting identification papers stolen from her home, a resident in the 1200 block of Columbia Avenue reporting a Seahawks flag stolen and a cell phone reported as stolen from an individual at Navarro’s Community Center.

Police in Sunnyside have also handled four automatic alarms, five animal complaints, a citizen dispute, two DUIs, a domestic violence call, four juvenile problems, five loud music calls, seven suspicious activity calls, four vandalism reports and five traffic mishaps. Officers, too, provided six agency assists and three citizen assists.
