Sunnyside still in search of first victory of season

MOSES LAKE – The Moses Lake Chiefs last night swept the visiting Sunnyside Lady Grizzly volleyball team in three straight sets.

“As the match went on, we played with more intensity and applied some of the defensive coverage aspects that we have been working on,” said Sunnyside Coach Jordyne Jaquish.

She said the third set was much more competitive than the first two, but the Lady Grizzlies ultimately lost 25-20 to the Chiefs.

Jaquish said Sunnyside still needs to work on its serve-receive efforts. Another area of improvement that is necessary to win a match is consistency.

“More consistent offensive opportunities will be a focus to drive our practices,” she said.

Madison Marro of Sunnyside was 100 percent (11-for-11) from the service line with one ace. Teammate Mikaela Chavez was 7-for-7 serving, and Jenelle Sanchez had four kills. Tiana Perez tallied two kills and three blocks.

Chavez and teammate Ashley Aguilar collected three digs apiece.

The Lady Grizzlies (0-2, 0-3) will return to action next Thursday, Sept. 25, at home against West Valley.
